The recent Lylewood Work Retreat was the result of brainstorming sessions earlier this year during the Family Retreat.
Work Retreat 2008
Lylewood Christian Camp hosted a “Work Retreat Weekend” October 31 thru November
2, 2008. The event was well attended and extremely productive. 17 adults
attended from three area congregations. Everyone present brought with them a
desire to serve and a love for the camp.
Work began at 7am Saturday morning after a hearty breakfast. By lunchtime,
nearly every team had completed a project and begun another. Thanks to Cathy and
Mary Beth Mimms for preparing the sandwich bar and tater tot (get your own)
lunch! During lunch we regrouped, reassessed, and redistributed manpower to
areas of need. Most projects were complete by 4pm. The basketball backboard
replacement team worked a little longer, finishing up under flashlights. Supper
was grilled steaks around the bonfire. There was lots of fellowship and feelings
of success and accomplishment.
The projects undertaken during the weekend were;
·
Remove graffiti.
·
Replace shower curtains.
·
Repainting of the four square court (it’s perfect!).
·
Replace toilet seats.
·
Replace trash cans.
·
Mark the year of purchase on new mattresses.
·
Install new towel bars, hooks, paper towel holders,
& toilet paper holders.
·
Replace exterior doorknobs.
·
Install new handmade curtains in the cabins.
·
Clean clutter in front of lower cook cabin.
·
Apply concrete sealer to the roof.
·
Clean clutter from arts & crafts pavilion.
·
Mow the grounds.
·
Repair ceiling fans on the roof.
·
Replace basketball backboard.
·
Collect and dispose of concrete block debris from
the grounds.
·
Collect and burn lumber scrap from the grounds.
·
Clean out the old girls cabin.
·
Pressure wash concrete walkways.
·
Replace grill tires.
·
Eliminate unneeded milk crates.
·
Clean up mop storage area near the kitchen.
·
Haul off garbage and scrap.
Other small
projects were identified and completed on-the-spot.
A $500 budget was set for the project. Groceries and materials combined stayed
within the budget with the exception of curtain materials with hanging hardware,
and unforeseen items needed that were purchased and brought by attendees.
Be on the lookout for announcements regarding a Spring Work Retreat prior to
